Riga International Airport (IATA: RIX, ICAO: EVRA) is the primary international airport serving Riga, the capital of Latvia, and the largest airport in the Baltic states. Located about 10 km west of Riga city centre in the municipality of Mārupe, RIX is the main hub for airBaltic (BT) and a key base for Ryanair (FR), Norwegian (DY), and SmartLynx Airlines (6Y).
Opened in 1973, Riga Airport has grown to become the leading air traffic infrastructure company in the Baltics, handling 41% of all passengers in the region in 2024. Terminals
Riga International Airport operates a single, modern passenger terminal that handles all international and domestic flights. The terminal is divided into three levels: the ground floor for arrivals, the second floor for departures, and the third floor for VIP lounges, a prayer room, and other passenger facilities. Both landside and airside facilities are available on all three levels.
The terminal features 14 gates, 21 check-in desks, and a wide range of passenger amenities including duty-free shops, cafes, restaurants, and a business lounge. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal. A tourist information centre is located in the public area of the ground floor arrivals area E.
The airport is undergoing a major expansion programme that will increase capacity to 12 million passengers per year. The expansion includes enlarging the public area of the terminal, including the check-in zone, security screening, baggage claim, and arrivals hall. A Rail Baltica railway connection is also planned, which will link the airport to the broader European rail network.
The airport operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The minimum connection time at RIX is 30–45 minutes for most transfers, as all gates are within the same terminal building.

Transportation
Riga International Airport is well connected to Riga city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 10 km west of Riga city centre.
Bus Route 22
Bus route 22 connects the airport directly to Riga Central Station and other key locations in the city centre. Buses run every 10–30 minutes from early morning until late evening. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased from the driver or via the Rīgas Satiksme app. The boarding stop at the airport is located opposite the terminal, just after the P1 car park.
Night Bus Route N22
A night bus route N22 “Centrs–Lidosta (Centre–Airport)” was introduced to provide transportation during nighttime hours. The N22 runs from the Stacijas laukums stop (on Marijas iela) to Riga Airport and back to the city centre.
Minibus 222
Minibus 222 connects the airport to the city centre and offers a faster alternative to the regular bus, with fewer stops. The journey takes about 20–25 minutes.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall. The journey to Riga city centre takes 10–20 minutes and costs approximately €15–20. Only licensed taxis should be used. Taxi apps like Bolt and Yandex.Taxi are also available and are usually cheaper.
Ride-hailing
Bolt operates at RIX. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside the terminal. Prices are usually 20–30% cheaper than official taxis, with fares to the city centre typically €10–15.
Private Transfer
Book a driver in advance for a stress-free arrival. Prices start from €25 for a sedan, including meet & greet in the arrivals hall. Popular with families and business travellers.
