Overview
Kyiv Boryspil International Airport (IATA: KBP, ICAO: UKBB) is the primary international airport serving Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and the largest airport in the country. Located about 29 km southeast of Kyiv city centre in the town of Boryspil, KBP is the main hub for Ukraine International Airlines (PS) and the country’s principal gateway for international air transport.
Opened in 1965, Boryspil has grown to become Ukraine’s busiest aviation hub, accounting for approximately 60% of the country’s air passenger traffic and 85% of its air cargo. The airport operates two passenger terminals — Terminal D (the main international terminal, opened in 2012) and Terminal F (used for low-cost and charter flights, reopened in 2019). Terminal B, the original terminal from 1965, is no longer in operation.
KBP connects to over 100 destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America, served by more than 50 airlines. It is a key hub for Ukraine International Airlines (PS) and a major gateway between Eastern Europe and the rest of the world. Popular routes include Istanbul (IST), Dubai (DXB), London (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), Vienna (VIE), Warsaw (WAW), and Tel Aviv (TLV).
In 2021, before the full-scale Russian invasion, Boryspil International Airport handled 9.5 million passengers, reaching 62% of its 2019 traffic level. Since February 24, 2022, Ukrainian airspace has been closed to civilian flights, and Boryspil Airport has remained closed to commercial passenger operations. However, the airport has maintained full operational readiness and retained qualified staff, with the capacity to resume commercial operations within 30 days once Ukraine’s airspace is reopened.

Terminals
Kyiv Boryspil International Airport operates two passenger terminals — Terminal D and Terminal F — plus a VIP terminal. Terminal D is the main international terminal, opened on 28 May 2012, and handles the majority of international and domestic flights. Terminal F is used for low-cost and charter flights, and was reopened in 2019. Terminal B, the original terminal from 1965, closed on 15 September 2011 and is no longer in operation.
Terminal D is the largest and most modern terminal, with a total area of over 100,000 square metres. It has 16 international gates (D1–D16) and 6 domestic gates (D17–D22), 62–76 check-in counters, and a large duty-free area. The terminal was designed to handle 15 million passengers per year and features multiple lounges, a wide range of dining and shopping options, and a business centre. All international arrivals and departures, as well as domestic flights, are handled at Terminal D.
Terminal F is smaller and is used primarily by low-cost carriers such as Ryanair (FR) and Wizz Air (W6), as well as charter flights. It was opened in 2019 and is connected to Terminal D by a free shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes. Terminal F passengers arriving on the Kyiv Boryspil Express train can conveniently board the shuttle bus at a stop near Terminal D.
A VIP terminal is also available for official visits, private aviation, and premium passengers. The airport operates 24 hours a day. The minimum connection time at KBP is 60 minutes for most transfers.

Transportation
Kyiv Boryspil International Airport is connected to Kyiv city centre through several transport options. The airport is located about 29 km southeast of Kyiv.
SkyBus
SkyBus is the official airport shuttle service, connecting Terminal D and Terminal F to Kyiv city centre. Buses depart from both terminals and go to Kyiv through the Kharkivska subway station to the Southern railway station (Pivdennyi vokzal). The SkyBus to Kyiv Central Station costs 100 UAH (approximately €2.30) and takes 40–60 minutes. Buses run every 15–30 minutes from early morning to late evening.
Boryspil Express Train
The Boryspil Express train connects the airport to Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi railway station (Central Station). The journey takes about 40 minutes and costs 100 UAH (approximately €2.30). Trains run several times a day. The train station is located near Terminal D, and a free shuttle bus connects the station to Terminal F.
Taxi
Official taxis are available outside the Arrivals hall of Terminal D. A journey to Kyiv city centre takes 30–60 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately 600–1,000 UAH (approximately €14–23) through an app like Uber or Bolt. Unofficial taxis at the airport charge 1,500–3,000 UAH (approximately €35–70) for the same route and should be avoided.
Ride-hailing
Uber and Bolt operate at KBP. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside Terminal D. Prices are usually cheaper than official taxis, with fares to the city centre ranging from 600–1,000 UAH (approximately €14–23).
Private Transfer
Book a driver in advance for a stress-free arrival. Prices start from 800–1,200 UAH (approximately €18–28) for a sedan, including meet & greet in the arrivals hall. Popular with families and business travellers.
