Overview
Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport (IATA: LWO, ICAO: UKLL) is the primary international airport serving Lviv, a major cultural and economic centre in western Ukraine. Located about 6 km south of Lviv city centre, LWO is the largest airport in western Ukraine by passenger traffic and route network, and the country’s third-busiest airport overall.
Opened in 1929, the airport was named in 2001 after Danylo Halytskyi, the medieval king and founder of Lviv. A major reconstruction ahead of the UEFA Euro 2012 championship delivered a new glass-and-stone Terminal A, designed to echo Lviv’s Austro-Hungarian architecture and opened on 12 April 2012. The new terminal covers 39,000 square metres and features 9 boarding gates (4 with jet bridges), 28 check-in desks, 2 self-check-in kiosks, 18 passport control points, and 12 aviation security checkpoints.
LWO connects to over 30 destinations across Europe and the Middle East, served by more than 20 airlines. Before the 2022 closure of Ukrainian civil airspace, the airport recorded a peak of roughly 2.2 million passengers in 2019 on services operated by Ukraine International Airlines (PS), LOT Polish Airlines (LO), Wizz Air (W6), Ryanair (FR), Lufthansa (LH), and Turkish Airlines (TK), with flights across Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.
Since February 2022, civil operations at LWO have been suspended due to the closure of Ukrainian airspace. The terminal has been used for humanitarian and military logistics close to the EU border. Physical infrastructure remains intact, and on post-war planning documents Lviv ranks alongside Boryspil (KBP) and Odesa (ODS) as one of the airports expected to reopen earliest, given its distance from the front lines.

Terminals
Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport operates a single modern passenger terminal — Terminal A — which handles all international and domestic flights. The older terminal building from the 1950s is no longer used for scheduled passenger services. Terminal A was built for the UEFA Euro 2012 championship and opened on 12 April 2012.
Terminal A covers 39,000 square metres and contains 9 boarding gates (4 with jet bridges), 28 check-in desks, 2 self-check-in kiosks, 18 passport control points, and 12 aviation security checkpoints. The terminal was designed with the needs of passengers with disabilities in mind, ensuring comfortable movement and service throughout. It features VIP lounges for domestic and international passengers, a modern Duty-Free area, cafes, and a tourist information centre inside the airport.
The terminal has two parking lots adjacent to it, designed for 25 bus parking spaces and 1,100 car parking spaces, accommodating both short-term and long-term parking.
The airport operates 24 hours a day. The minimum connection time at LWO is 45 minutes for most transfers, as all gates are within the same terminal building.

Marshrutka (Minibus) Route 48
The marshrutka minibus route 48 connects the new terminal to Lviv city centre. The stop is located near Terminal A. Buses run every 10–15 minutes from 07:00 to 22:00. The journey takes about 20–30 minutes. The fare is 4 UAH (approximately €0.10), one of the cheapest options for reaching the city.
Trolleybus Route 9
Trolleybus route 9 connects the airport to the city centre and the university area, with a stop near the old terminal. Trolleybuses run every 6–9 minutes from 06:00 to 23:00. The journey takes about 30 minutes. The fare is 2 UAH (approximately €0.05), making it the cheapest option. Budget travellers with light luggage can also use bus 16 or trolleybus 9 and walk part of the way.
Taxi
Official taxis are available outside the terminal building. A trip to the city centre takes about 15–20 minutes and costs approximately 35–45 UAH (approximately €1–1.30) through an official taxi service. Local taxi drivers may try to overcharge tourists, so it is recommended to call a car through an official taxi service rather than accepting offers from drivers soliciting inside the terminal.
Ride-hailing
Uber and Bolt operate at LWO. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside Terminal A. Prices are usually similar to official taxis but can be higher during peak hours.
