Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (IATA: ATL, ICAO: KATL) is the primary international airport serving Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, and the busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic. Located about 16 km south of downtown Atlanta, ATL is the main global hub for Delta Air Lines (DL) and a key base for Southwest Airlines (WN) and Frontier Airlines (F9).
Opened in 1926 as Candler Field, Hartsfield-Jackson has grown to become the world’s busiest airport, a title it has held for more than two decades. Terminals
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport operates two main terminal buildings — the Domestic Terminal and the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal — connected to seven concourses (T, A, B, C, D, E, and F) by the Plane Train, an automated people mover that runs every two minutes on a 3-mile loop.
The Domestic Terminal is located on the west side of the airport and is divided into North and South sides. The South side primarily serves Delta Air Lines (DL), while the North side serves other domestic carriers including Southwest Airlines (WN), American Airlines (AA), and United Airlines (UA). The terminal has its own entrance and parking areas.
The Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal is located on the east side of the airport and handles most international departures and arrivals. It has its own entrance, separate from the domestic terminal, accessible from Interstate 75 at Exit 239. Passengers traveling outside the United States should check in at the international terminal.
The seven concourses are located between the terminals and are all connected by the Plane Train and a pedestrian tunnel with moving walkways. Concourses T, A, B, C, and D handle domestic flights, while Concourses E and F handle international flights. All seven security checkpoints provide access to all concourses, so passengers may use any checkpoint.
A free shuttle service connects the international terminal to the domestic terminal, with shuttles leaving from the curb outside the international terminal and dropping off at the west end of the domestic terminal. The Plane Train also connects the international terminal to the domestic terminal.
The minimum connection time at ATL is 60–90 minutes for most domestic-to-international transfers and 45–60 minutes for domestic-to-domestic transfers.

Transportation
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is well connected to downtown Atlanta and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 16 km south of downtown Atlanta.
MARTA Train
The MARTA train is the most affordable option for reaching downtown Atlanta. The station is located inside the airport, accessible from the Domestic Terminal and the International Terminal via the Plane Train. Trains run frequently throughout the day and the journey to downtown takes about 15–20 minutes. A single ride costs approximately $2.50. The MARTA Red and Gold lines connect the airport to key destinations including Five Points, Peachtree Center, and Arts Center stations.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall of both terminals. The journey to downtown Atlanta takes about 20–30 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately $35. Only licensed taxis should be used.
Ride-hailing
Uber and Lyft operate at ATL. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside each terminal. Prices are usually similar to taxis, with fares to downtown typically $30–45.
Hotel Shuttles
Many hotels near the airport offer complimentary shuttle services for their guests. Check with your hotel in advance to arrange pickup. Several airport-area hotels provide 24-hour shuttle service to the domestic terminal.
