Brussels Airport (IATA: BRU, ICAO: EBBR), also known as Brussels-National Airport, is the primary international airport serving Brussels, the capital of Belgium, and the busiest airport in the country. Located about 12 km northeast of Brussels city centre in the municipality of Zaventem, BRU is the main hub for Brussels Airlines (SN) and a key base for TUI fly Belgium (TB), Ryanair (FR), and easyJet (U2).
Opened in 1940 as a military airfield, Brussels Airport has grown to become one of the most important aviation hubs in the Benelux region. It operates a single, integrated passenger terminal building divided into two main areas — Pier A and Pier B — connected by a central shopping and dining zone. Pier A handles Schengen flights, while Pier B serves non-Schengen and intercontinental routes. Pier A handles all Schengen (European) flights, including most domestic and European routes. It is used by Brussels Airlines (SN), British Airways (BA), Lufthansa (LH), Air France (AF), KLM (KL), Ryanair (FR), and easyJet (U2). The pier features a large duty-free area, multiple lounges, and a wide range of dining and shopping options.
Pier B serves all non-Schengen and intercontinental flights, including long-haul services to Africa, Asia, North America, and the Middle East. It is used by Brussels Airlines (SN) for its African network, as well as by Emirates (EK), Qatar Airways (QR), Singapore Airlines (SQ), Turkish Airlines (TK), and United Airlines (UA). Passengers departing from Pier B must pass through passport control.
The airport also has a dedicated cargo area and a separate general aviation terminal. The central shopping and dining zone between Piers A and B features a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and the Brussels Airport Business Centre.
The minimum connection time at BRU is 35 minutes for Schengen-to-Schengen transfers and 50 minutes for international-to-international transfers.

Transportation
Brussels Airport is well connected to Brussels city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 12 km northeast of Brussels.
Train
Brussels Airport has its own railway station (Brussels Airport-Zaventem) located directly beneath the terminal building. Trains run to Brussels Central Station, Brussels North, and Brussels South (Midi) every 15–30 minutes. The journey to Brussels Central takes about 17 minutes, and to Brussels South about 23 minutes. A single ticket costs approximately €9.30. This is the fastest and most reliable option for reaching the city centre.
Bus
Several bus lines connect the airport to Brussels and the surrounding area, including De Lijn and STIB lines. The airport bus (Line 12) runs to Brussels city centre (Place Luxembourg) in about 30 minutes. Fares start from €4.50. Buses are cheaper than the train but have longer journey times.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall. A fixed-rate fare to Brussels city centre (within the Brussels-Capital Region) is approximately €45–55. The journey takes 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. Only licensed taxis should be used.
Ride-hailing
Uber and Bolt operate at BRU. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside the terminal. Prices are similar to taxis but can be higher during peak hours.
