Humberto Delgado Airport (IATA: LIS, ICAO: LPPT), also known as Lisbon Portela Airport, is the primary international airport serving Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and the busiest airport in the country. Located about 7 km north of Lisbon city centre in the civil parish of Olivais, LIS is the main hub for TAP Air Portugal (TP) and a key base for easyJet (U2), Ryanair (FR), and Vueling (VY).
Opened in 1942, Lisbon Airport has grown to become one of the most important aviation hubs in the Iberian Peninsula. Terminal 1 is the main terminal and handles most international and domestic flights, including all TAP Air Portugal (TP) operations, as well as flights by British Airways (BA), Air France (AF), Lufthansa (LH), KLM (KL), Emirates (EK), and Qatar Airways (QR). It features a large duty-free area, multiple lounges (including the TAP Premium Lounge and the ANA Lounge), and a wide range of dining and shopping options. The Metro Red Line station is located directly at Terminal 1.
Terminal 2 is a separate building used primarily by low-cost carriers such as easyJet (U2), Ryanair (FR), and Vueling (VY). It opened in 2015 and has a simplified layout with basic facilities. Passengers departing from Terminal 2 should allow extra time for the shuttle transfer from Terminal 1.
The airport also has a dedicated cargo area and a separate general aviation terminal. Terminal 1 is directly connected to the Lisbon Metro Red Line, providing fast access to the city centre.
The minimum connection time at LIS is 45 minutes for domestic-to-international transfers and 60 minutes for international-to-international transfers.

Humberto Delgado Airport is well connected to Lisbon city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 7 km north of Lisbon.
Metro (Red Line)
The Lisbon Metro Red Line connects the airport directly to the city centre, with stops at Saldanha, Alameda, and São Sebastião. Trains run every 5–10 minutes from 06:30 to 01:00. The journey to Saldanha takes about 15 minutes, and to the city centre (Baixa-Chiado) about 25 minutes. A single ticket costs approximately €1.50 (or €1.80 with a Viva Viagem card). This is the fastest and most convenient option for reaching the city.
Aerobus
The Aerobus operates two routes connecting the airport to key locations in Lisbon. Line 1 runs to the city centre (Cais do Sodré) via Avenida da Liberdade, and Line 2 runs to Oriente station and the airport. Buses run every 20 minutes from 07:00 to 23:00. A single ticket costs €4.00, and a 24-hour pass costs €6.00. This is a convenient option for passengers with luggage.
Public Bus (Carris)
Several Carris bus routes connect the airport to various parts of Lisbon, including routes 705, 722, 744, and 783. Fares start from €1.50 (with a Viva Viagem card). Buses are the cheapest option but have longer journey times and more stops.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall of both terminals. A journey to Lisbon city centre takes 15–25 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately €15–20. Only licensed taxis (black with green roofs) should be used.
Ride-hailing
Uber, Bolt, and FreeNow operate at LIS. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside each terminal. Prices are similar to taxis but can be higher during peak hours.
