Baghdad International Airport (IATA: BGW, ICAO: ORBI) is the primary international airport serving Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. Located about 16 km west of Baghdad city centre in the Al-Ghazaliyah area, BGW is the main hub for Iraqi Airways (IA) and the busiest airport in the country.
Formerly known as Saddam International Airport, the airport opened in 1982 and was renamed in 2003. It covers an area of approximately 25 square kilometres and has three passenger terminals, a cargo terminal, and two parallel runways. The airport is a joint civilian and military facility, housing the New Al Muthana Air Base.
BGW connects over 30 destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and North Africa, served by more than 20 airlines. Terminals
Baghdad International Airport operates three passenger terminals — Terminal A, Terminal B, and Terminal C — plus a Cargo Terminal and a VIP Terminal for official visits.
Terminal A is the newest and most modern terminal, opened in 2019. It handles most international flights and is used by Iraqi Airways (IA) for its premium routes and by some foreign carriers. The terminal features modern check-in facilities, duty-free shops, and a business lounge.
Terminal B is the main terminal for most international carriers, including Turkish Airlines (TK), Emirates (EK), Qatar Airways (QR), and EgyptAir (MS). It has a larger check-in area, multiple immigration counters, and several dining options.
Terminal C is primarily used for domestic flights and some regional services. It is the oldest terminal building and handles flights operated by Iraqi Airways (IA) and Fly Baghdad (IF) on domestic routes.
A free shuttle bus connects all terminals every 15 minutes. The minimum connection time at BGW is 90 minutes for most transfers, as passengers must pass through additional security screening. Passengers transferring between terminals should allow at least 45 minutes.

Transportation
Baghdad International Airport is connected to Baghdad city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 16 km west of Baghdad on the Airport Road.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall of each terminal. A journey to central Baghdad costs approximately USD 25–40 and takes 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. Fares should be agreed upon before departure, and only official airport taxis should be used. US dollars are widely accepted.
Ride-hailing
Careem and local ride-hailing services operate at BGW. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside the terminal. Prices are usually 20–30% cheaper than regular taxis, but can be higher during peak hours. The journey to central Baghdad takes about 30–45 minutes.
Private Transfer
