Overview
Skopje International Airport (IATA: SKP, ICAO: LWSK), also known as Skopje Airport and Petrovec Airport, is the primary international airport serving Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. Located about 21 km east of Skopje city centre in the municipality of Petrovec, SKP is the larger and busier of the two international airports in North Macedonia, the other being St. Paul the Apostle Airport in Ohrid.
Opened in 1928, Skopje Airport has grown to become the main gateway to North Macedonia. It operates a single, modern passenger terminal that handles both Schengen and non-Schengen traffic in a common departures hall. The terminal has 12 gates with four jet bridges and features a modern arrivals and departures hall, duty-free shopping, and a business lounge (PrimeClass CIP). The airport is operated by TAV Airports and has been undergoing continuous modernisation since 2010.
SKP connects to over 50 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, served by more than 20 airlines. It is a key base for Wizz Air (W6), which operates its largest base from Skopje and accounts for the majority of the airport’s traffic. Popular routes include Istanbul (IST, SAW), London (LTN, STN), Vienna (VIE), Zurich (ZRH), Frankfurt (FRA), Milan (MXP), and Dubai (DXB).
In 2024, Skopje International Airport handled over 3.1 million passengers, showing a modest 1% growth compared to 2023. The airport operates 24 hours a day and is a key driver of tourism and business travel for North Macedonia.

Terminals
Skopje International Airport operates a single, modern passenger terminal that handles both Schengen and non-Schengen traffic in a common departures hall. The terminal was extensively renovated and expanded as part of a major modernisation programme and features 12 gates with four jet bridges.
The terminal is designed for efficient passenger flow, with check-in counters and security screening located on the ground floor, and the departures area on the upper level. The common departures hall serves all flights, regardless of destination, with a single security checkpoint. Passengers flying to non-Schengen destinations pass through passport control after security.
The terminal features a modern arrivals and departures hall, duty-free shopping, a range of dining options including Cakes & Bakes, Café In, Burger King, and Need Stop, and a business lounge (PrimeClass CIP). The airport also has a dedicated cargo area and is open 24 hours a day.
The minimum connection time at SKP is 45 minutes for most transfers, as all gates are within the same terminal building.

Transportation
Skopje International Airport is well connected to Skopje city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 21 km east of Skopje.
Airport Shuttle Bus (Vardar Express / V2V Transporter)
The airport shuttle bus connects the airport to Skopje city centre, stopping at key locations including the Holiday Inn stop near Macedonia Square and the main bus station. The service is operated by Vardar Express / V2V Transporter and the timetable is adapted to flight arrivals and departures. Buses do not operate 24 hours. The journey takes about 30–40 minutes. A one-way ticket costs 199 MKD (approximately €3.20).
Taxi
Official white taxis with numbered signs (1 to 65) are the only authorized taxis to transport passengers from the airport. They are parked at the exit of the airport building 24 hours a day. A metered taxi from SKP to central Skopje runs on the standard city meter rate and costs approximately €25. The journey takes about 20–25 minutes. Passengers should use only these authorized taxis.
