Chubu Centrair International Airport (IATA: NGO, ICAO: RJGG), commonly known as Centrair, is the primary international gateway serving the Chubu region of central Japan, including Nagoya, Gifu, and Mie. The airport is located on an artificial island in Ise Bay, off the coast of Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture, approximately 35–37 kilometres south of Nagoya city centre.

Centrair opened on 17 February 2005 as Japan’s fourth major international airport, after Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda, and Osaka Kansai. It was built on a 580-hectare artificial island and features a single 3,500-metre runway. The airport is operated by Central Japan International Airport Co., Ltd. (CJIAC), a joint venture between the Japanese government, Aichi Prefecture, and private shareholders.

Centrair is a hub for All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines (JAL), and Peach Aviation. The airport is directly connected to the Meitetsu railway network, with the station located approximately a 2-minute walk from Terminal 1, providing a 28-minute connection to Nagoya Station via the μ-SKY Limited Express.

The airport is renowned for its efficiency, cleanliness, and unique passenger amenities, including the Sky Town shopping and dining complex on the 4th floor of Terminal 1, and a Japanese bathhouse (onsen) with an open-air bath offering views of the runway and Ise Bay. Terminal 1 is a four-storey building with 36 gates, 30 boarding bridges, 58 shops, and 49 dining outlets. Terminal 2 opened in September 2019 as Japan’s first dedicated low-cost carrier terminal, with a floor area of 45,000 square metres, 15 gates, and 6 boarding bridges, designed to handle 1.5 million domestic and 3 million international passengers annually.

In FY2023, Chubu Centrair International Airport served approximately 12.5 million passengers. The airport continues to serve as a key economic driver for the Chubu region and is consistently recognised for its operational efficiency and passenger experience.
