Osaka Itami International Airport (IATA: ITM, ICAO: RJOO), commonly known as Itami Airport, is one of the two major airports serving the Kansai region of Japan, alongside Kansai International Airport (KIX). The airport is located in Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture, approximately 10 kilometres northwest of Osaka city centre, and straddles the border between Osaka and Hyogo Prefectures.
Itami Airport opened on 17 January 1939 and served as the primary gateway to Osaka for decades before Kansai International Airport opened on an artificial island in 1994. Today, Itami functions primarily as a domestic airport, handling the majority of domestic flights for the Kansai region, while KIX handles all international long-haul traffic.
The airport is operated by Kansai Airports, a joint venture between ORIX Corporation and VINCI Airports, which has managed both Itami and Kansai International Airport since April 2016. Itami Airport covers an area of 311 hectares and features two runways: Runway A (1,828 m × 45 m) and Runway B (3,000 m × 60 m).
In FY2025, Osaka Itami Airport served approximately 16.29 million passengers, with an average of about 45,000 passengers per day. The airport recorded approximately 138,000 aircraft movements, averaging about 378 per day. The airport’s operating hours are from 7:00 to 21:00, with a daily movement limit of 370 slots (200 for jet aircraft and 170 for propeller/low-noise aircraft).
Itami Airport has been recognised for its operational efficiency, ranking first worldwide in the medium airport category in the CIRIUM 2023 Annual On-Time Departure Rate Ranking, and achieving first place in the OAG On-Time Performance Ranking in the World’s Top 20 Airports category.
