Phu Quoc International Airport (IATA: PQC, ICAO: VVPQ) is the primary international gateway to Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam’s largest island and a rapidly growing resort destination in Kien Giang Province. The airport is located approximately 9 kilometres south of Bãi Trường (Long Beach), placing most beachfront resorts within a 10 to 20-minute drive of the arrivals hall. The airport was opened on 15 December 2012, replacing the old Phu Quoc Airport, and features modern infrastructure capable of handling wide-body aircraft including the Boeing 747, Boeing 787, and Airbus A350.
The airport operates as a 4E-class aerodrome under ICAO standards, with a single runway measuring 3,000 metres that is being extended to 3,300 metres. The terminal complex covers roughly 900 hectares in the former Duong To commune, with domestic operations located on the eastern side and international arrivals and departures on the western side, both operating as a single connected facility.
Phu Quoc International Airport has experienced rapid growth in recent years. In 2025, the airport handled approximately 6 million passengers, including nearly 2 million international arrivals, operating at over capacity since 2024 against its designed capacity of 4 million passengers per year. International flights grew by 44% compared to the previous year, with an average of about 100 flights per day, nearly 50% of which were international. In January 2026, the airport set an unprecedented record by welcoming 47 international flights in a single day, surpassing the previous record of 46. International passenger traffic in January reached 143,643, a 37% increase compared to the same period last year.
A major expansion programme is underway ahead of the APEC 2027 Summit, with Sun Group taking over airport operations on 1 January 2026. The airport has introduced the Sun Express biometric facial recognition system across its full arrival and departure process, terminal-wide Wi-Fi, upgraded flight information displays, and electronic toll collection at airport access points. A hotel check-in service at selected resorts allows Sun PhuQuoc Airways passengers to check in for flights and drop off checked baggage before travelling to the airport.
