Kaunas Airport (IATA: KUN, ICAO: EYKA), also known as Kaunas International Airport, is the second-busiest airport in Lithuania and the main hub for low-cost carriers serving the country. Located about 13 km northeast of Kaunas city centre in the district of Karmėlava, KUN is a key base for Ryanair (FR) and Wizz Air (W6), and serves as an alternative gateway to Vilnius (VNO) for budget travellers.
Opened in 1988 and extensively modernised in 2008, Kaunas Airport has grown to become one of the fastest-growing airports in the Baltic region. It operates a single, modern passenger terminal that handles all international and domestic flights, along with a dedicated cargo area. The terminal was expanded in 2023–2024 to accommodate increasing passenger traffic, with new gates and additional security lanes. The airport also has one of the largest cargo facilities in the Baltics, serving major logistics companies. It is connected to Kaunas by bus line 29 and taxi services.
KUN connects to over 30 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, served by more than 10 airlines. It is a key base for Ryanair (FR), which operates its largest Lithuanian base from Kaunas, and Wizz Air (W6). The terminal was extensively modernised in 2008 and further expanded in 2023–2024 to accommodate increasing passenger traffic, with new gates, additional security lanes, and a larger duty-free area.
The terminal is designed for efficient passenger flow, with check-in counters and security screening located on the ground floor and the departures area on the upper level. The terminal features a range of passenger amenities including duty-free shops, cafes and restaurants, a business lounge, free Wi-Fi, and a tourist information desk.
The airport also has one of the largest cargo facilities in the Baltics, serving major logistics companies and handling the majority of Lithuania’s air cargo traffic. A separate general aviation facility is located on the northern side of the airport.
The airport operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The minimum connection time at KUN is 30–45 minutes for most transfers, as all gates are within the same terminal building.

Transportation
Kaunas Airport is well connected to Kaunas city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 13 km northeast of Kaunas city centre.
Bus Route 29
Bus route 29 connects Kaunas Airport directly to Kaunas city centre, including stops at the central railway station and the bus station. Buses run every 20–30 minutes from 05:00 to 23:00. The journey to the city centre takes about 25–30 minutes. A single ticket costs €1.00 if purchased via the Trafi app or at kiosks, or €2.00 from the driver.
Minibus
Minibuses also connect the airport to Kaunas city centre and offer a faster alternative to the regular bus, with fewer stops. The journey takes about 20–25 minutes. Fares are similar to the bus.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall. The journey to Kaunas city centre takes 15–20 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately €10–15. Only licensed taxis should be used. Taxi apps like Bolt and Uber are also available and are usually cheaper.
