Cheddi Jagan International Airport (IATA: GEO, ICAO: SYCJ), formerly known as Timehri International Airport, is the primary international airport serving Georgetown, Guyana, and the main gateway to the country. The airport is located on the right bank of the Demerara River in the town of Timehri, approximately 41 kilometres south of Georgetown.
The airport is named after Dr. Cheddi Jagan, a former President of Guyana and a key figure in the country’s independence movement. GEO serves as the principal hub for Caribbean Airlines and is a critical link between Guyana and destinations across the Caribbean, North America, and Europe.
The airport has undergone significant expansion in recent years. A new Arrivals Terminal became operational in September 2018, followed by a rehabilitated Departure Terminal, together forming a modernized facility with dedicated arrival and departure sections, a functioning transit lounge, and four passenger boarding bridges. Construction of a new Terminal 2, spanning 150,000 square feet and designed as a three-storey building, is currently underway and expected to be completed by 2028.
In 2025, passenger traffic at GEO reached 973,016, representing a 432.5% increase compared to 182,736 passengers in 2020. Passenger movements grew by 13.6% between 2024 and 2025. The airport is served by 12 international airlines offering flights to 14 destinations.
