Overview
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (IATA: BEG, ICAO: LYBE), also known as Belgrade Airport, is the primary international airport serving Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, and the busiest airport in the country. Located about 18 km west of Belgrade city centre in the municipality of Surčin, BEG is the main hub for Air Serbia (JU) and a key operating base for Wizz Air (W6).
Opened in 1962 and renamed in 2006 in honour of the Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla, the airport has grown to become the largest and busiest airport in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. It operates two passenger terminals — Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 — located about 500 metres apart and connected by a free shuttle bus that runs every 20–30 minutes. Terminal 2 is the main terminal handling all scheduled flights for Air Serbia (JU) and other full-service airlines, as well as all international arrivals. Terminal 1 is used exclusively for charter flights and low-cost carriers, primarily Wizz Air (W6). The airport also has a dedicated cargo terminal and is connected to Belgrade by the A1 minibus, public bus line 72, and taxi.
BEG connects to over 118 regular and charter destinations across Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa, served by more than 30 airlines. It is a key hub for Air Serbia (JU) and a major gateway between the Balkans and the rest of Europe. In 2024, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport handled a record 8.4 million passengers, an increase of 5.3% compared to the previous year and 36% more than in the pre-pandemic 2019. Aircraft movements reached 86,121. The airport’s vision is to be the main airport and gateway for the former Yugoslavia and the surrounding countries of Southeast Europe.

Terminals
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport operates two passenger terminals — Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 — located about 500 metres apart and connected by a free shuttle bus that runs every 20–30 minutes. A marked walking path also connects the two buildings in about 10 minutes.
Terminal 1 is the original terminal, opened in 1962. It is used exclusively for charter flights and low-cost carriers, primarily Wizz Air (W6). It has its own check-in, security, and arrivals facilities, and handles a growing share of the airport’s low-cost traffic.
Terminal 2 is the main terminal, constructed in the 1980s and used mainly for international flights. It handles all scheduled flights for Air Serbia (JU) and other full-service airlines, as well as all international arrivals regardless of airline. It is larger, newer, and houses most of the airport’s amenities, including a large duty-free area, multiple lounges, and a wide range of dining and shopping options. Terminal 2 has 33 check-in desks, six gates, and three baggage claim belts. It is connected to the A1 minibus and public bus line 72.
The airport also has a dedicated cargo terminal. The facilities at the terminals include 16 gates, 15 airbridges, and three baggage claim belts. Both terminals feature business-class and departure lounges, immigration areas, duty-free shopping, ATMs, cafes, and restaurants.
The minimum connection time at BEG is 45 minutes for domestic-to-international transfers and 60 minutes for international-to-international transfers. Passengers transferring between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 should allow at least 30 minutes for the free shuttle bus.

Transportation
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is well connected to Belgrade city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 18 km west of Belgrade.
A1 Minibus (City Express)
The A1 minibus is a dedicated express service that runs non-stop between the airport (both terminals) and Slavija Square in central Belgrade. The journey takes about 25–30 minutes. Buses run every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day. Tickets are purchased from the driver (cash in Serbian Dinars). The fare is 300 RSD (approximately €2.50). Slavija Square is one of Belgrade’s busiest transport hubs, located about 1.5 km from the city centre. This is the fastest dedicated road link to the city.
Public Bus (GSP Line 72)
Bus line 72 connects the airport (stop in front of Terminal 2) with Zeleni Venac, a central bus station and market in downtown Belgrade. Buses run approximately every 30 minutes. The journey takes 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. Tickets cost 89 RSD if purchased at a kiosk before boarding, or 150 RSD if purchased on the bus. A BusPlus card can also be used. This is the most affordable option for reaching the city centre.
Public Bus (GSP Line 607)
Bus line 607 connects the airport to Surčin, one of Belgrade’s 17 municipalities. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Tickets cost 89 RSD if purchased at a kiosk, or 150 RSD on the bus. This route is useful for passengers heading to the Surčin area.
Taxi
Official airport taxis are operated by the “Beogradski Taxi” organization. Passengers should use the official taxi desk inside the arrivals hall of Terminal 2 or the booth outside Terminal 1. A ticket with a fixed price to key city zones will be issued. A trip to the city centre (e.g., Republic Square) costs around 2,200–2,800 RSD (approximately €18–24). The journey takes 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. Independent drivers soliciting inside the terminal should be avoided, as they charge exorbitant rates.
Ride-hailing
Car:Go and Yandex.Taxi are popular local ride-hailing apps available at BEG. Pickup is from designated parking areas. These are often cheaper than official taxis, but ensure the app’s pickup location matches the correct terminal.
