Overview
Zurich Airport (IATA: ZRH, ICAO: LSZH), also known as Kloten Airport, is the largest international airport in Switzerland and the main hub for Swiss International Air Lines (LX). Located about 12 km north of Zurich city centre in the municipality of Kloten, ZRH serves the city of Zurich and is the primary gateway to the Swiss Alps and the country’s financial centre.
Opened in 1948, Zurich Airport has grown to become one of the most important aviation hubs in Central Europe. It operates three check-in areas — Check-in 1, Check-in 2, and Check-in 3 — along with three airside concourses: Concourse A (Schengen flights), Concourse B (non-Schengen flights), and Concourse E (a satellite terminal connected to the main building by the Skymetro automated people mover, used for most intercontinental flights). The airport also has a dedicated cargo area and is connected to Zurich by the S-Bahn (S2, S16, and S24 lines) and tram line 10.

Terminals
Zurich Airport operates three check-in areas — Check-in 1, Check-in 2, and Check-in 3 — along with three airside concourses: Concourse A, Concourse B, and Concourse E.
Check-in 1 is located in the main terminal building and serves most international long-haul flights, including Swiss (LX) intercontinental routes and carriers such as Emirates (EK), Qatar Airways (QR), and Singapore Airlines (SQ).
Check-in 2 is used primarily by Swiss (LX) for European and domestic flights, as well as by many Star Alliance partners including Lufthansa (LH), United Airlines (UA), and Air Canada (AC).
Check-in 3 serves most other international carriers, including British Airways (BA), Air France (AF), KLM (KL), and Turkish Airlines (TK).
Concourse A is used for Schengen (European) flights and is accessible directly from the main terminal. Concourse B handles non-Schengen flights and is also in the main building. Concourse E is a satellite terminal connected to the main building by the Skymetro automated people mover, and it handles most intercontinental (long-haul) flights. The Skymetro journey takes about 3 minutes and runs every 2–3 minutes.
The airport also has a large shopping and dining area in the Airside Center, multiple lounges (including the Swiss Lounge and the Panorama Lounge), and a transit hotel (the Transit Hotel Zurich).
The minimum connection time at ZRH is 40 minutes for most transfers within the same concourse, and 60–75 minutes for transfers between Concourse A/B and Concourse E.

Transportation
Zurich Airport is well connected to Zurich city centre and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 12 km north of Zurich.
S-Bahn (Suburban Train)
The S-Bahn lines S2, S16, and S24 connect Zurich Airport to Zurich Hauptbahnhof (main station) and other destinations in the region. Trains run every 10–15 minutes. The journey to Zurich Hauptbahnhof takes about 10–12 minutes. A single ticket costs approximately CHF 7.20 (or CHF 4.40 with a Zurich city zone ticket). This is the fastest and most reliable option for reaching the city.
Tram Line 10
Tram line 10 connects Zurich Airport to Zurich city centre, with stops including Bhf. Oerlikon, Milchbuck, and ETH/Universitätsspital. The journey to Zurich Hauptbahnhof takes about 35–40 minutes. Trams run every 7–10 minutes. This is a cheaper alternative to the train, but with a longer journey time.
Bus
Local buses connect the airport to various parts of Zurich and the surrounding region. Fares start from CHF 4.40. Buses are the cheapest option but have longer journey times and are less convenient for passengers with luggage.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall of each terminal. The journey to Zurich city centre takes 15–25 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately CHF 50–70. Only licensed taxis should be used.
Ride-hailing
Uber operates at ZRH. Pick-up zones are clearly marked outside the terminal. Prices are similar to taxis but can be higher during peak hours.
