Monterrey International Airport (IATA: MTY, ICAO: MMMY), officially known as General Mariano Escobedo International Airport, is the primary international airport serving Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo León, Mexico, and the third busiest airport in the country. The airport is located approximately 17 miles (27 km) northeast of downtown Monterrey in the municipality of Apodaca.
The airport began operations in November 1970 and has since grown into the principal air hub of northern Mexico, serving as a strategic gateway for business, industry, and tourism in the region. It is operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA), which has been part of the VINCI Airports network since December 2022.
MTY operates three passenger terminals (A, B, and C) and serves as a hub for Viva Aerobus, which uses Terminal C, and a focus city for other Mexican carriers including Aeroméxico and Volaris. The airport currently offers flights to more than 66 destinations, including 26 international routes.
In 2025, Monterrey International Airport handled 15,623,275 total passengers, a 15% increase over 2024, making it the fastest-growing airport in the OMA network. This comprised 13,092,125 domestic passengers (+15.3%) and 2,531,150 international passengers (+13.8%). For the first quarter of 2026 alone, the airport recorded over 3.5 million air passengers.
Monterrey Airport is currently undergoing a major expansion and modernization program with an investment exceeding 8 billion pesos. Once fully completed, the airport’s capacity will increase by 50% to serve approximately 18 million passengers annually, with a total terminal area of 103,000 square metres.
