Melbourne Airport (IATA: MEL, ICAO: YMML), also known as Tullamarine Airport, is the primary international airport serving Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and the second busiest airport in Australia. Located approximately 20 km (12.5 miles) northwest of Melbourne’s city centre in Tullamarine, the airport is owned and operated by Australia Pacific Airports Corporation (APAC).

Opened in 1970, Melbourne Airport is Australia’s largest 24-hour curfew-free airport and serves as a major gateway between Australia and destinations across Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. The airport operates four passenger terminals: Terminal 1 (Qantas domestic), Terminal 2 (international), Terminal 3 (Virgin Australia domestic), and Terminal 4 (Jetstar and regional carriers).

In the 2026 financial year, Melbourne Airport handled almost 37 million passengers, including a record 12.26 million international travellers across more than 57,000 international flights — the busiest 12-month period for international travel since the airport opened in 1970. December 2025 was the busiest month in the airport’s history, with 3,421,195 passengers passing through its four terminals.

Melbourne Airport serves 42 airline partners, including Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Rex, and international carriers such as Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand, and United Airlines. China was the largest source of international arrivals during the 2026 financial year with 636,245 passengers, followed by New Zealand (517,943), India (323,308), the United Kingdom (201,261), and the United States (142,339).
