Overview
Tokyo Haneda Airport (IATA: HND, ICAO: RJTT), officially known as Tokyo International Airport, is one of the two primary international airports serving the Greater Tokyo Area, Japan, alongside Narita International Airport (NRT). Located about 14 km south of Tokyo Station in Ōta, Tokyo, HND is the main hub for Japan Airlines (JL) and All Nippon Airways (NH), and a key base for Skymark Airlines (BC) and Air Do (HD).
Opened in 1931, Haneda is the older of Tokyo’s two airports and was the primary international gateway to Japan until Narita opened in 1978. Following a major expansion in 2010 with the opening of the International Terminal and a new runway, HND has reclaimed its position as a major international hub. The airport operates three passenger terminals — Terminal 1 (domestic, JAL), Terminal 2 (domestic, ANA), and Terminal 3 (international) — connected by a free shuttle bus and the Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Line train services.

Terminals
Tokyo Haneda Airport operates three passenger terminals — Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3 — connected by a free shuttle bus that runs every 4–5 minutes. The Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Line also connect the terminals to central Tokyo.
Terminal 1 (Domestic, JAL) handles domestic flights primarily operated by Japan Airlines (JL) and its partners. It has two wings (North and South) with a total of 42 gates and features a large shopping and dining area on the 5th floor, including a rooftop observation deck with views of Mount Fuji on clear days.
Terminal 2 (Domestic, ANA) handles domestic flights primarily operated by All Nippon Airways (NH) and its partners. It has two wings (North and South) with a total of 42 gates and similar amenities to Terminal 1, including a rooftop observation deck.
Terminal 3 (International) is the international terminal, opened in 2010 and expanded in 2014 and 2020. It handles all international flights and features a large duty-free area, multiple lounges (including the JAL First Class Lounge, ANA Suite Lounge, and various airline lounges), and a wide range of dining and shopping options. The terminal also has a transit hotel (Royal Park Hotel) and direct access to the Keikyu Line and Tokyo Monorail.
A free shuttle bus connects all three terminals every 4–5 minutes, with a journey time of about 5–10 minutes. The Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Line also connect Terminal 3 to Terminals 1 and 2.
The minimum connection time at HND is 60 minutes for domestic-to-international transfers and 90 minutes for international-to-international transfers.

Transportation
Tokyo Haneda Airport is exceptionally well connected to central Tokyo and the surrounding region through several transport options. The airport is located about 14 km south of Tokyo Station.
Tokyo Monorail
The Tokyo Monorail connects Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho Station in central Tokyo. The journey takes 13–18 minutes, depending on the train type (Haneda Express or Local). Trains run every 3–5 minutes from 05:00 to 24:00. A single ticket costs ¥500 (approximately $3.50). Hamamatsucho is a major transfer hub with connections to the JR Yamanote Line and Keihin-Tohoku Line.
Keikyu Line
The Keikyu Airport Line connects Haneda to Shinagawa Station, one of Tokyo’s major railway hubs, in about 11–16 minutes. Trains run every 5–10 minutes. A single ticket costs ¥300–500, depending on the train type. Shinagawa offers connections to the JR Yamanote Line, Tokaido Shinkansen (bullet train), and other lines.
Taxi
Official taxis are available 24/7 outside the Arrivals hall of each terminal. The journey to central Tokyo (e.g., Shinjuku or Shibuya) takes 30–60 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately ¥6,000–9,000 (approximately $40–60). Only licensed taxis should be used.
Ride-hailing
Uber and local ride-hailing services operate at HND, but availability is more limited than in other major cities. Traditional taxis remain the primary private transport option.
Airport Limousine Bus
The Airport Limousine Bus connects Haneda to major hotels and destinations in Tokyo, including Shinjuku, Shibuya, Tokyo Station, and Disney Resort. Buses run every 15–30 minutes, and the journey takes 45–90 minutes depending on traffic. A single ticket costs ¥1,000–1,300 (approximately $7–9).
