The new terminal was designed by the Croatian-Italian architectural firm Neidhardt and has capacity for 5 million passengers per year, with room for expansion to 8 million in future phases.
The terminal is a single-level building designed for efficient passenger flow, with check-in counters, security screening, and the departures area all on the same level. The terminal has 30 check-in desks, 23 gates (including 4 with jet bridges), and 6 baggage claim belts. The design emphasises natural light and simple navigation, with clear signage in Croatian and English throughout.
The terminal features a large duty-free area, multiple lounges (including the Croatia Airlines Business Lounge and the PrimeClass Lounge), a wide range of dining options, and a business centre. The airport also has a dedicated cargo terminal, capable of handling 20,000 tonnes of cargo per year, with cold storage, live animal quarantine, and plant quarantine facilities.
The airport operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The minimum connection time at ZAG is 45 minutes for most transfers, as all gates are within the same terminal building.
