Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (IATA: ASU, ICAO: SGAS) is the primary international gateway serving Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, and the busiest airport in the country. The airport is located in the city of Luque, approximately 13 to 17 kilometres northeast of downtown Asunción, within the Gran Asunción metropolitan area.
The airport is named after Silvio Pettirossi, a pioneering Paraguayan aviator credited as the founder of the country’s aviation industry. It was formerly known as Presidente Stroessner International Airport, named after former President Alfredo Stroessner, before being renamed in honour of Pettirossi. The airport is operated by the Dirección Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil (DINAC), Paraguay’s National Civil Aviation Authority.
ASU serves as the primary hub for LATAM Paraguay and Paranair, and is the main base for most airlines serving Paraguay. The airport is a dual-use civil-military facility, sharing its grounds with the Paraguayan Air Force’s Nu-Guazu base. It connects Paraguay with destinations across South America and Europe, with the most frequent routes being Buenos Aires and São Paulo.
In 2025, Silvio Pettirossi International Airport set a historic record with 1,327,342 passengers, a 9.4% increase over 2024, representing an additional 110,457 passengers. The airport recorded 48,362 aircraft movements and handled 23,158,758 kilogrammes of air cargo during the year. Eleven airlines operated at ASU in 2025. The airport operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
