Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (IATA: HYD, ICAO: VOHS) is the primary international airport serving Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, India, and the fourth-busiest airport in the country by passenger traffic. The airport is located approximately 24 kilometres south of Hyderabad city centre in Shamshabad, Telangana, and covers an area of about 5,400 acres.

The airport opened on 23 March 2008, replacing the old Begumpet Airport, and is named after Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India. It is operated by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), a public-private consortium led by GMR Airports. HYD serves as the primary hub for Air India’s domestic operations and is a major base for IndiGo, handling a large volume of domestic and international traffic.

HYD features a single, integrated passenger terminal building, widely considered one of the best-designed in India. The terminal is organized with separate levels for arrivals and departures and distinct piers for domestic and international flights, with all facilities interconnected for easy transfers. The airport has two runways capable of handling wide-body aircraft.

In 2025, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport handled approximately 31 million passengers, recording 10.5% growth in the calendar year and nearly 18% growth in FY24–25. For FY2025, the airport handled 29.16 million passengers, a 17% year-on-year increase compared to 25.04 million in FY2024. The airport generates nearly ₹68,000 crore in gross value added and supports around 3.5 lakh jobs in Telangana when multiplier effects are included.

A second terminal is planned to accommodate future growth. The master plan was completed in 2025, with land levelling scheduled to begin in 2026 and civil construction expected to start in FY2027–28. The new terminal is expected to take approximately three years to complete as it is a complete greenfield site.
