Kempegowda International Airport (IATA: BLR, ICAO: VOBL) is the primary international airport serving Bengaluru, the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka, and the third-busiest airport in India by passenger traffic. The airport is located approximately 35 kilometres north of the city centre in Devanahalli, and covers an area of 4,000 acres.

The airport opened on 24 May 2008, replacing the old HAL Airport, and was named after Kempegowda I, the founder of Bengaluru. It is operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), a public-private consortium. BLR serves as the primary hub for Air India Express, which consolidated Bengaluru as its largest hub with 81 daily departures, and is a major base for IndiGo and Akasa Air.

The airport features two passenger terminals — Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (Garden Terminal) — supported by two runways. Terminal 2 was inaugurated in November 2022 at a cost of approximately ₹5,000 crore and is inspired by Bengaluru’s reputation as the “Garden City.” It received pre-certification as a USGBC LEED Platinum building and holds IGBC Platinum certification. The terminal’s design is inspired by the hanging gardens of Babylon and features extensive indoor greenery.

In calendar year 2025, Kempegowda International Airport handled a record 43.82 million passengers, an 8% increase over 40.73 million in 2024. The airport recorded its highest-ever single-day passenger movement of 137,317 on 23 November 2025, while air traffic movements peaked at 837 on 19 October 2025. As of 31 December 2025, BLR was connected to 113 destinations — 79 domestic and 34 international cities. The airport crossed the 400 million passenger milestone since commencing operations in April 2026.
