Narita International Airport (IATA: NRT, ICAO: RJAA) is the primary international airport serving the Greater Tokyo Area and the busiest international airport in Japan. The airport is located in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, approximately 60–70 kilometers east of central Tokyo.
Narita Airport opened in 1978 and has since become the main gateway for international travel to and from Japan. It serves as a major hub for Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, and their respective alliance partners, as well as a base for numerous low-cost carriers.
The airport operates three passenger terminals. Terminal 1 serves Star Alliance and SkyTeam carriers, Terminal 2 serves Oneworld alliance members, and Terminal 3 is dedicated to low-cost carriers. Free shuttle buses connect all terminals, and a covered walkway links Terminals 2 and 3.
In 2025, Narita Airport recorded its highest-ever number of international foreign passengers, with 23.9 million foreign travelers passing through, a 10% increase over the previous year. Total passenger traffic for the calendar year reached 42.25 million.
