Miami International Airport (IATA: MIA, ICAO: KMIA) is the primary international airport serving Miami, Florida, and the surrounding South Florida region. Located approximately 7 miles northwest of downtown Miami, MIA is owned and operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.

MIA is a major hub for American Airlines and a key gateway between the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The airport began operations in September 1928 when Pan American World Airways took off for Havana, Cuba. By 1959, the airport had grown to 2,900 acres and the two small former terminal buildings gave way to a large central terminal. MIA later became the first airport in the country to have rental cars and duty-free shops.

In 2025, Miami International Airport handled 55,314,661 passengers, comprising 30,464,597 domestic (55%) and 24,850,064 international (45%) travelers. MIA ranks second in the United States for international passenger traffic and first for international freight. The airport offers approximately 190 nonstop destinations, of which 107 are international, and is served by 57 passenger airlines. MIA generates an economic impact of $212 billion for Florida and supports approximately 946,000 jobs.
